It’s no secret, during the Winter, our heating bills usually rise. So, we try to find ways to keep them down and save some energy. One of those ways is to turn down our thermostats and use electric blankets when we go to sleep. While this is a perfectly fine solution, it needs to be done safely. Electric blankets can pose risks to your health and safety if they’re damaged or used improperly.
First, you should inspect your blanket before using it. Like any electronic, you should look to make sure that the wires aren’t damaged. But, we’re not just talking about the cord to plug it in. There are internal wires inside the blanket that heat it up while keeping it flexible and soft. These wires are also extremely prone to damage. To make sure that they’re in working order, you should inspect your blanket very thoroughly. Check the blanket for any exposed wires, burn marks, or tears. If you see any signs of internal damage, you should get rid of the blanket immediately and replace it.
Next, you may wonder whether it is safe to use an electric blanket throughout the entire night. Most models have timers on them, so you should be very careful to use them each time you turn it on. If your model doesn’t have a timer, consider turning it off right before you go to sleep.
Electric blankets are a great way to save money, save energy, and stay warm. But, you need to make sure that you’re using them correctly and safely!
